Mayté Ciriaco Ruiz is a data and investigative journalist. She works as a reporter in the Data Journalism Unit of El Comercio and is the co-founder of Salud con Lupa (a collaborative network of journalists promoting public health in Latin America). She develops open data projects for journalistic work and won a scholarship to study a master’s degree in Data Science at the Universidad del Valle de México (UVM). She has published a book – “Niñas sin Infancia”, about the normalization of sexual abuse in the Peruvian Amazon. In addition, she has worked for respected research platforms including Ojo Público and SembraMedia.org, and has contributed to international investigations including “Paradise Papers: Secrets of the Global Elite” and “Implant Files”, coordinated by the International Consortium for Investigative Journalists (ICIJ). This latest research also won the Association of Health Journalists Award and American Scripps Howard Award. In 2018, she won the Gabo Award for Best Coverage for her “Venezuela a la Fuga” report, has served as a Fellow of the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ), the World Health Organization (WHO) and India Government, and traveled to India to cover the Mother and Child Health Forum.
